    Must Read

Moving to a different city or state is something that most of us will need to do at one time or another. This could be for a job, for better weather or simply if we need a change of pace or scenery. While there are many popular places to move, no place gained more new residents than the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 2018.

To people who know the city, this should come as no surprise. Dallas is one of the largest cities in the country, and is a true global city. It has a very diverse economy and is a hub for culture, cuisine, history, sports, economics, education and more.

However, before you up and move your entire life to Dallas, there are some things you should know. With that in mind, this blog post is going to take a look at 5 things that you need to make sure you know before you move to Dallas.

Know Which Area You Want to Live

The first and most important thing to know before moving to Dallas is to know which area or neighborhood you want to live in. As you could expect with a city of over 1 million residents, there are a lot of different areas to choose from. Checking out a list of apartments and their prices in Dallas should help you make the call.

Evert neighborhood is Dallas has different characteristics and residents, so choose carefully. Not only should you perform a lot of research, but could also consider visiting different neighborhoods in person before deciding where you want to live. Of course, the cost of living and rent/purchase price will vary from area to area, as well.

Be Prepared for the Dallas Traffic

    Traffic jam

While you may suspect that traffic in a city of over 1 million people is bad, you still might not be prepared for it. The traffic in Dallas is considered among the worst in the country. As a result, you definitely need to plan out where you live and work to ensure your commute is viable. No one wants to spend multiple hours driving each and every day.

You should also know which areas and times are worse for traffic, such as rush hour. Also, public transportation in Dallas isn’t nearly as good as places like New York, so it may not be an option for you. There is no way around the traffic, but just be prepared to deal with it if you decide to move to Dallas.

You Will Never Run Out of Things to do in Dallas

While many cities have a lot for people to do to keep them entertained, few have as much as Dallas. Dallas is home to a ton of different sports teams and has plenty of fields or gyms for you to play sports as well. However, if sports aren’t your thing, don’t worry. Dallas has museums, concert halls, a ton of parks, many different restaurants and nightclubs and so much more.

There are always events going on and you will never be bored in a city like Dallas. Point is, no matter what you like, you will never run out of things to do in Dallas. You should know this ahead of time to research some things you want to do so you don’t become overwhelmed when you get there.

    It is Incredibly Diverse

While many may think Dallas is full of cowboys and oil workers, this isn’t the case at all. There are a wide range of people from all walks of life and all races are represented. In fact, Dallas recently ranked in as one of the top 5 most diverse cities in the entire country. Diversity doesn’t only mean race as many different cultures, working classes and age ranges live here.

This diversity is wonderful as it allows residents to experience a number of different cultures and practices if they so choose. If you walk down the street and you never know who you might run into and the stories you might hear. Being in a diverse city is a great way to grow as a person, and Dallas provides a great opportunity to do so.

    Be Ready for Unpredictable Weather

While Texas and Dallas is usually quite hot and sunny, that is not to say that the weather in Dallas can’t be unpredictable. It could be completely sunny one second, and be raining heavy the next. If you are used to somewhere with consistent weather, Dallas might be a little shocking to you.

You need to prepare for anything on any day, and even extreme situations like storms and tornadoes are relatively common. Always have some layers with you or in your vehicle and just because it is nice and sunny in the morning, don’t expect this to always continue into the afternoon.
