Edward Harrison Norton was born August 18, 1969, known Edward Norton is an American actor and filmmaker. He has received numerous awards and nominations, including a Golden Globe Award and three Oscar nominations.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Columbia, Maryland, Norton was drawn to local theatrical productions as a child. After graduating from Yale College in 1991, he worked for a few months in Japan before moving to New York to pursue an acting career. He was immediately recognized and critically acclaimed for his debut in Primal Fear (1996), which earned him a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor and an Oscar nomination in the same category. His role as a Reformed neo-Nazi in American History X (1998) earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He also starred in the cult film Fight Club (1999).

Despite critical applause, Norton gained notoriety for being hard to work with, including incidents such as editing final cuts and rewriting screenplays against the wishes of other producers. He is low-key about his personal life and has shown no interest in becoming a celebrity.

He is a director of Enterprise Community Partners, a non-profit organization that advocates for affordable housing, and is chairman of the US branch of the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. Norton insisted that he was not in love with Love and that the two were just friends and co-workers. However, Love has confirmed that they are in a brief and low-key relationship. She said Norton had been a “mediator” and “communicator” between her and her daughter Frances Bean Cobain, calling him a “force for good”.

In 2011, Norton proposed to Canadian film producer Shauna Robertson after dating for six years. They married in 2012 and welcomed their first son, Atlas, in 2013.
